This week feels I had the first ever session of Bruised, Burning, Beautiful: Writing Through Emergency— a course I’ve been writing for quite some time and that means an awful lot to me. We talked about the meaning of the word EMERGENCY, and how important language is in representing the various crises we are living through.
We covered some really humbling and moving ground, and I came away from it feeling so nourished and so hopeful. I’m struggling with balance at the moment: how to write of times like this when often what I really want is to be the opposite of public facing.
I want to be quiet and I want to be still. I don’t want to have to perform in the ways that being a writer can often demand.
I simply want to be.
My time at Charleston was really transformative for me.
