I was away in Belfast at the weekend for the amazing thing that is Belfast Book Festival and also to celebrate my soul sister’s birthday. My insomnia has been quite bad recently and over the weekend, between the hours of one and three am I seemed to find myself drawn into instagram memories on my phone in the place of reliving memories in my dreams. I searched back though all the images I have on Instagram for the summer solstice, and the main thing that struck me was how beautiful and tidy my living spaces had been before becoming a mother. The reality is that it is my lover who tidies and cleans our home, and I arrived back from Belfast to the most gleaming house but the attic room in our home is my own space and as such it had become overwhelmingly chaotic; not a space in which a person could really sleep or create.
I knew when I got back on Monday that I would be clearing the room this week. Despite how busy I know I am, it is not wasted time to create beauty in our surroundings; to ensure they are spaces in which we can place ourselves so as to be able to relax into any given vein of light.
